Ok. I know I said I'm on deadline and should be writing. But "I'm on deadline" usually means "I'm on deadline but am actually mindlessly searching the internet for unsubstantiated celebrity gossip and comparison shopping for cheap vacation packages to Bali." Yeah, like that'll happen. In any case, today's procrastination did lead me to this way interesting post from the folks at Guanabee, a clip from a kid's TV show called Handy Manny. About a Latino cartoon character who, of course, is a handyman. Stereotype? Transgressive figure teaching gringo kids the value of immigrants? Who knows. But equally fascinating is the conversation the clip generated in the comments section. An actual cultural debate amidst the snark. Not to mention my favorite sentence of the week (so far) from the actual post: "And a small tear rolls down Cesar Chavez’s picture in Delano, California." Badass.
