Some people just don't get it. Or if they do, they just don't care. Seems another group of ignorant white students -- in this case, law students at Tulane University -- not only planned a party around the theme of "The Border" -- showing up for the fiesta in large, floppy sombreros and pasted-on black mustaches -- but stupidly photographed their gringo selves in the offending costumes.
And then they posted the images on Facebook. Pendejos.
Remind me not to retain any lawyers graduating from Tulane. They sound like idiots. Guanabee, broke the story and has the details here, plus they thoughtfully posted more of the festive party pics at which to gawk at with disbelieving, open mouth. Someone please forward the pics to the Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh types who are now arguing that Obama's election (which they all opposed, by the way) proves America is no longer racist and for all the brown people to now please shut up and stop complaining.
For some odd reason a few of the gringos sported aviator sunglasses as a signifier of "Mexicaness." The sombreros I get, but aviator sunglasses? I'm guessing that's because Benicio del Toro wore them in Traffic? Or is that giving their semiotic skills too much credit? In any case the beer of choice appeared to be Corona. Typical. One of the students, a Peter Skarsgard looking chubby guy, deviated from the sombrero look and was dressed like a cholo. I immeditatley knew homeboy was inauthentic because he was not leaning like one. Plus vato's whiteboy's fake Pendelton shirt was buton-down. Dork. Be sure and read the comments over at the Guanabee post. Some people actually defend the use of racist stereotypes as appropriate Law School party wear. Our future best and brightest indeed.
I saw that shit during Halloween. I saw one guy dressed as a "Mexican" for Halloween. I was going to kick his ass, then I smelled his breath. He was far too gone. I didn't punch him; as we were getting out of the shuttle bus with the whole crowd, I gave the fucker a Charlie horse with my Timberlands. Fucker fell to the ground and blamed it on the alcohol.
I smiled.

Saying all Tulane Law graduates "sound like idiots" because of the actions of a few insensitive white students is a bit of an unwarranted stereotype, I believe.

This article is such bullshit. What is offending about it??

I guess wearing a cowboy hat is also offending?

Being someone who is a minority, I don't find this to be offensive at all. What?? Only white people can have 50s theme parties? Only hispanic people can have mexican themed parties?? I had a 90s party just last year and I dressed as an alternative rock person and I'm black. I wasn't making fun of white people.
Being racist is if they actually performed a totally ignorant act or said racial slurs. Now if they trying to act like a mexican by going to sleep and acting as a "sleeping mexican". That would be offensive. But throwing a themed party is just fun. This whole article is total bs.

These are law students? What idiots. Where is Tulane? Probably in the South. I would never hire anybody from that law school.

Sorry Chrissy, but I don't believe you. If some law students had a party and dressed like black people--in traditional African dress or in gangsta rap clothing, I have a feeling it would be a huge controversy.
Why can't these idiots have a party without making fun of people? Honestly, the fact that they will be practicing law is scary. It just shows how much our educational system has deteriorated.

Whats up Fellas? Now what does that makes me a "Good Fellas" character? C'mon people we are wasting precious time worrying about what others are doing instead of worrying how to make this planet a better place for our future generations if there is such a thing. With people always finding a way to confront one another and engage in violent conflict for simple crap like Why are you dress like a Mexican? Or why are you...blah blah blah? C'mon Fellas lets get real the world needs positive attitude I have a question Have you called your Momtoday to tell her you Love Her? Think again before engaging in arguments....Thank you
